Amazon Attribution is an advertising-measurement program. Its URL parameters measure off-Amazon marketing for an advertiser. They are not the same thing as an Amazon Associates tracking ID, even though both kinds of link ultimately reach an Amazon page.
Who Amazon Attribution is for
Amazon Ads offers Attribution to advertisers and agencies measuring how their own campaigns (search ads, social ads, email, influencer placements) drive traffic and conversions on Amazon. An Attribution link is generated per campaign and carries measurement parameters that credit that campaign, not an Associates account.
How to recognize an Attribution link
Attribution URLs carry MAAS-related query parameters (for example maas, maas_adg, or an aa_maas referral marker) added when the tag is applied to a campaign. An Associates link instead exposes a publisher tracking ID in a tag parameter. The free Amazon link checker detects Attribution markers and reports them separately from the visible Associates tag.
Why the two programs should not be combined
Editing query parameters is easy; being eligible for two measurement programs at once is not. Stripping Attribution parameters breaks the advertiser's campaign measurement, and stacking an Associates tag onto an Attribution URL risks violating the operating agreement of one program or the other. BetterLink treats them as separate link types and does not add an Associates tag to a preserved Attribution destination.
How BetterLink handles a detected Attribution link
- Wraps it as a tracking-only destination without localization or Associates-tag injection.
- Asks for an explicit conversion when the user wants a normal Associates destination instead.
- Preserves destination history so changing a BetterLink does not require editing every published placement.
- Sends non-product destinations for manual review when no safe product conversion can be inferred.
When a campaign ends
Confirm the advertiser agreement and Amazon requirements before changing the link. A product Attribution URL may be rebuilt as a clean Amazon product destination with the publisher's appropriate Associates tag, but storefront pages and campaign landing pages may need manual handling.
